Kamal defends 'Tamil-Kannada' remark

A speech by actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Kannada during the audio launch of his upcoming film 'Thug Life' in Chennai on Saturday has triggered a linguistic row, with Karnataka political leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, slamming the actor and seeking his apology, and a few TN parties rallying in his support.
Responding to the mounting criticisms, Kamal, speaking at a promotional event for the movie in Kerala on Wednesday, asserted that his words were an expression of affection rather than provocation.
"People will take care of 'Thug Life' and these controversies. Politicians are not qualified to speak about language, including me. We don't have the academic depth. Let historians, archaeologists and linguistic experts lead such debates," he said.
