Murder suspect shot at by cops in Salem

A man wanted in the recent murder of an elderly woman at Deevattipatti village near Omalur on May 20 landed in the police net on Saturday morning but not before he was injured in firing by the police personnel in self-defence after an alleged bid to hack them.
Salem police zeroed in on the 25-year-old suspect, Niranjan, alias Naresh Kumar, who was hiding in an abandoned building near Chinnagoundanur in Sankagiri in Salem district. The resident of Bottiyapuram was shot in his right leg during the police bid to capture him.
He is currently undergoing treatment at the Salem Government Hospital after being referred from the Sankagiri Government Hospital.
