WITH an eye on the urban and rural local body elections, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar tabled supplementary demands worth ₹57,509 crore on the first day of the Assembly's monsoon session on Monday.
The maximum allocation of ₹17,645 crore has gone to the Urban Development Department. It is likely to be distributed among urban local bodies for infrastructure development, such as roads and bridges. This is seen to be in keeping with the ruling alliance's focus on the elections to 29 civic bodies.
