PUBLIC sector banks have written off ₹12.09 lakh crore in loans from 2015-16 to 2024-25, the government told Parliament on Tuesday.

In the last five years, the written-off loan amount is to the tune of ₹5.82 lakh crore.

India's largest bank – State Bank of India – wrote off the maximum ₹1.14 lakh crore in the last five years, followed by Union Bank of India (₹85,540 crore) and Punjab National Bank (₹81,243 crore).
