Writers unhappy with Shah's remarks

Poet Mudnakudu Chinnaswamy calls union minister's comment on Ambedkar anti-democratic

UNION Minister Amit Shah's recent comments on Dr B R Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha recently echoed in the 87th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana with poets and writers taking exception to Shah's remarks.

They pitched that Ambedkar fought and restored the dignity of women and the civil liberties of every human being in Indian society.

Speaking at a session on 'Dalit Literature and Women' at the 87th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, Buddhist writer Jayadevi Gaikwad said seniors have commented on chanting Ambedkar. Gaikwad said women are benefited and are living with dignity because of Ambedkar's vision which created pathways for women to access education and empowerment.

Listing out Ambedkar's achievements in enabling women to pursue education and thrive in literary fields, she noted that Ambedkar's initiatives including the establishment of the Bhikkhuni Sangha by Buddha underscored the potential for women to achieve significant milestones in society.
