Need to encourage transgenders in theatre, says Revathi

NOTED theatre artiste and activist A Revathi felt that there is a need for more directors to train members of the transgender community and bring them into theatre. A leader of transgender community and the author of 'Badaku Bayalu', Revathi said the transgender community needs funding, directors and an audience.

Inaugurating a seminar at the Bahuroopi National Theatre Festival here on Saturday, Revathi said she entered the theatre late but has learnt a lot in a short period which has enabled her to train her fellow members of the transgender community.

Thanking theatre personality Ganesh of Ninasam for producing a play based on her autobiography and later giving her a chance to perform her own character, she said the performance of young artistes brought my character alive where she was made to stand nude in Cubbon park Police station in Bengaluru.
