Janivara Row: State Govt Assures Action Against Officials

A day after students writing the Common Entrance Test (CET) were allegedly asked to remove their janivara (sacred thread) in Bidar and Shivamogga, the State government has sought a comprehensive report from the deputy commissioners concerned, as well as Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) officials.
While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he will seek information from the officials, Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar condemned the act and said the state government has taken the issue seriously, and will ensure that action is taken against them. At an examination centre in Shivamogga, students wearing janivara and other sacred threads were asked to remove them, while in Bidar district, a boy reportedly left the centre without writing the exams on Thursday.
