Govt Firm On Welfare Of Gig Workers: Lad

Plans afoot to establish residential schools for kids of unorganised sector workers on lines of Morarji Desai Residential Schools

Labour Minister Santosh Lad reaffirmed the state government's commitment to the welfare and development of unorganised sector workers through the implementation of several targeted schemes.

Speaking at the 'Smart Card Distribution and Awareness Programme for Unorganised Workers' held at a private convention hall on the outskirts of Kolar here on Wednesday, Lad said 91% of workers in the unorganised sector have been identified across the country. The state government has introduced several welfare initiatives to ensure livelihood security for this vast workforce. These include the Gig Workers Bill, Cine Workers Bill, Transport Workers Bill, Ashadeepa Yojana, Dr BR Ambedkar Helping Hand Scheme, and Equal Pay for Equal Work for outsourced employees.

Stating that smart cards are being distributed to unorganised workers to enable easier access to government welfare schemes, Lad stressed the need for increased awareness among workers about the benefits available to them.
