Residents in nearby areas report breathing difficulties and burning sensation in the throat
A massive fire engulfed the Excel Plant in JP Nagar sending thick clouds of toxic fumes into the sky and spreading panic across the city since Sunday.
The blaze, which broke out earlier on Sunday afternoon, has raised serious concerns about air pollution and public health, as residents in nearby areas, especially residents of apartments near the plant, reported breathing difficulties and a burning sensation in the throat.
The acrid stench of burning waste and chemicals lingered in the air, forcing people to stay indoors and cover their faces with clothes and masks. Firefighters battled the raging flames, and black smoke continued to billow, casting a dark haze over parts of the nearby areas.
