City Under 10K-Strong Police Watch for Dasara

Security cover more than double this year to prevent any untoward incident during nine-day-long festivities

THIS year's Dasara celebrations in Mysuru will see an unprecedented security blanket, with over 10,000 policemen, hundreds of senior officials, and extensive CCTV surveillance deployed across the city.

The massive security arrangement comes in the wake of recent disturbing incidents like stampede at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations that claimed 11 lives, and the violent stone-pelting incident at Maddur during a Ganesha procession.

Police officials said elaborate measures have been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the festivities, with crowd management, traffic regulation, and public safety given top priority.

The large-scale deployment aims to prevent any untoward incidents during the world-famous Mysuru Dasara, which draws lakhs of visitors each year.
