Farmers, industrialists slam the proposal, ask power company to bring down the transmission loss instead
The Chamundeshwari Electric Supply Company (CESC) has filed a petition before the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) seeking a 68 paise increase in power tariff for 2025-26 to meet the deficit of ₹609.56 crore.
During the KERC public hearing chaired by chairman P Ravikumar at the Zilla Panchayat conference hall here on Wednesday, CESC managing director G Sheela pitched for ₹1.03 increase per unit for 2026-27 and ₹1.23 per unit for 2027-28 to meet a deficit of ₹970 crore and ₹1,214.15 crore respectively.
Since the CESC has been directed to pay pension and gratuity to the employees, the power company had planned to collect the same from the consumers with an appeal to increase 68 paise per unit including a basic charge of 30 paise and 38 paise of unit cost.
