Initiatives like the Inclusive Therapy Park and AIISH Aarogya Vani, terming them as models for India and other countries
President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on Monday inaugurated the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), and described the institute as an outstanding example of women-led development.
Speaking after inaugurating the event and making commemorative releases here on Monday, she noted with pride, "For the past two decades, AIISH has been led by women, including present director Dr. M.A. Shpavathi - which is a sterling example of women-led development."
She said that institutions like AIISH should continue to work in the spirit of innovation and with compassion so that people with speech and hearing impairments can live a fulfilling life, and contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.
The President said that AIISH has been serving the nation by preparing expert manpower for addressing communication disorders.
The institute not only provides multidisciplinary treatment to people of all age groups with speech and hearing disabilities but also reaches out to needy people across the country through its outreach centres, tele-assessment and tele-rehabilitation services," she observed.
She appreciated initiatives like the Inclusive Therapy Park and AIISH Aarogya Vani, calling them models that have earned recognition both in India and abroad.
Shedding light on the magnitude of the challenge, President Murmu pointed out that over six crore people in India were affected by hearing problems in 2023.
