Adivasis demand ₹517 crore as part of rehabilitation package in state budget

THE Adivasi People's Parliament has urged the state government to allocate ₹15 lakh and five acres land to each of the 3,418 tribal families as part of rehabilitation package in the upcoming state budget.
The Adivasis People's Parliament, citing Prof Muzafar Assadi Committee's 34 recommendations, urged the state government to take a decision to give a decent life to the families by allocating ₹517 crore in the budget as a rehabilitation package besides allotting 17,090 acres land, preferably forest land on the border of Nagarahole national park.
It also recalled that the High Court panel had recommended starting a Tribal University and environmentalist Yellappa Reddy recommended that a Tribal and Forestry University be started in Hunsur Kalbetta area which is a centre point close to Kodagu, Mysuru, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts.
