NIA should probe murders of Ashraf, Rahiman, not Suhas' killing: Advocate

TERMING Ashraf and Abdul Rahiman murders as 'targeted communal killing', a scheduled crime, S Balan, High Court advocate and president of All India Practicing Lawyers Council, on Saturday demanded that the NIA probe the cases, besides invoking the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against the accused.

Talking to reporters, Balan accused the Central government of showing a discriminatory attitude towards Muslims by not handing over these two cases to the NIA, despite them qualifying for the same. On the other hand, he said the murder case of rowdy-sheeter and Hindutva activist Suhas Shetty was handed over to the NIA, despite it being an 'individual targeted revenge killing' which is not a scheduled crime. "The NIA probe into Suhas murder is a misuse of constitutional provisions and political power," he said.
