Man narrowly escapes falling prey to fraudsters

ONLINE fraudsters have come up with a new trick to dupe unsuspecting citizens and the authorities have cautioned people on fraudulent WhatsApp messages circulated along with links that mimic traffic challan payments.
A private firm employee, Rahul Pai from Mangaluru, narrowly escaped from falling victim to the scam after receiving a fake traffic violation challan on WhatsApp. Pai received a message on WhatsApp saying he has been fined Rs 1000 for jumping a red signal on Friday. The message looked similar to those issued by the traffic police. The message read, "Traffic Violation Notice | Vehicle Number, Dear Vehicle Owner, We wish to inform you that a traffic violation has been recorded against your vehicle for jumping a red signal, which is a breach of traffic regulations. Details of the Violation: Challan Number: VA4516S-
