Legacy Waste Disposal Continues To Haunt Madikeri

Project was launched with much fanfare, but no authorities are keen in ensuring its implementation

The garbage woes that were promised a scientific disposal in the Madikeri city limits continue to grow without end in sight. While a tender was finalized to clear the legacy waste, the delay in waste disposal continues even as it might not find a solution before this monsoon season. Last month, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Wadiyar and Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda launched the project to clear the legacy waste at the Stone Hill limits. Rs 5 crore has been released for the scientific disposal of waste under the Swachh Bharat Mission and the tonnes of legacy waste was assured to be cleared before June this year. While the project was launched religiously, no authorities are keen in ensuring its implementation, sources allege.
