DC Issues Warning Against Manual Scavenging

Asks officials to ensure timely payments to sanitation workers, loaders, cleaners, drivers

UDUPI Deputy Commissioner (DC), Vidya Kumari K, has issued a strong warning against the practice of manual scavenging, emphasizing that it is strictly prohibited. Aiming to eradicate this unsafe practice, Kumari stated that strict action will be taken against those who hire manual scavengers.

While presiding over the district-level Safai Karmachari District Vigilance Committee meeting held recently, the DC said that a survey of manual scavenging and unhygienic toilets in urban and rural areas was conducted, and no cases of manual scavenging were reported in the district. She stressed the need to raise awareness among Safai Karmacharis about government schemes aimed at their welfare and to empower them economically by making them beneficiaries of these initiatives.
