'Dalit women not allowed to sell fish in markets in Mangaluru'

DALIT leaders during the SC/ST grievances meeting at the city police commissioner's office condemned manhandling of a dalit woman at Malpe and complained that dalit women are not allowed to sell fish in the markets in Mangaluru.
The SC/ST grievances meeting was presided over by DCP Siddharth Goyal on Sunday. Dalit leaders during the meeting condemned the assault of the dalit woman by tying her to a tree and thrashing her over charges of fish theft. Girish Kumar, a dalit leader, said that dalit women are not allowed to sell fish in the markets in Mangaluru also. Another leader Vishwanath Chendimaru urged to bring the issue to the notice of the department of fisheries and give protection to dalit women, to which the DCP assured to take action.
