EXTERNAL Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said the United Nations must reform to remain effective, pointing out that it still reflects the “realities of 1945, not 2025”.
Speaking at the UN Troops Contributing Countries Chiefs’ Conclave, he said, “For the UN to be effective, it must reform—becoming more inclusive, democratic, participative, and representative of today’s world.” He noted that UN membership has quadrupled since 1945 and said, “Institutions that fail to adapt risk irrelevance, not just irrelevance but eroding legitimacy, and leaving us without recourse in times of uncerta
