KARIPUR (Kozhikode) airport is turning into a hub of drug trafficking. Drugs worth a whopping ₹125 crore have been seized from arriving passengers in the past five months.
The seized contraband ranged from hybrid ganja and synthetic drugs to sweets laced with intoxicants.
The most recent incident was on Thursday, when the customs seized 23 kg of hybrid cannabis worth ₹23 crore from a woman who arrived from Bangkok via Dubai. Mashuda Shuhaibi, 30, of Payyannur Thaingeri MTP house in Kannur was arrested, and the cannabis hidden in her baggage seized. The customs officials said she was just a carrier.
