High airfare in Koz: 'Haj pilgrims may embark from Kannur airport'

Round trip from Kannur charged at Rs 85K, while one from Koz costs Rs 40k to Rs 1.5L more
IN AN EFFORT to help Haj pilgrims avoid the high airfare at Kozhikode airport, authorities have offered them the option to shift their embarkation point to Kannur airport. Under this plan, up to 516 pilgrims can opt to depart from Kannur, where airfare is lower compared to the Kozhikode embarkation point.
Currently, Haj pilgrims flying from Kannur pay ₹85,000 for a round trip, whereas those from Kozhikode are charged ₹1.25 lakh—₹40,000 more. This steep difference has sparked outrage among pilgrims from Malabar. Following widespread protests, authorities introduced this option for pilgrims to switch their embarkation point from Kozhikode.
