5-Year-Old Contracts Rabies Despite Vaccination, in Critical Condition

A FIVE-AND-A-HALF-YEAR-OLD girl from Malappuram has contracted rabies despite receiving the anti-rabies vaccine and is in critical condition at the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital.

The child was bitten by a stray dog on March 29. Although she was vaccinated and her wounds initially healed, she later developed a fever and rabies was confirmed.

The girl, a native of Kakkathadam, Peruvallur, suffered serious injuries to her head and legs in the attack. On the same day, seven other people were bitten by the same stray dog. The child got bitten when she had gone out to buy sweets.
