Protest erupts as police lathicharge family, three cops suspended

A row erupted after cops lathicharged members of a wedding party, including a husband and wife, in front of a bar hotel at Abaan Junction in Pathanamthitta late on Tuesday night.
Following public outcry and heavy criticism against police and the state government, an internal inquiry has been initiated and three police officers were suspended from service on Wednesday.
The suspended officers are Pathanamthitta sub-inspector Jinu, and CPOs Jobin and Ashfak. The police have also registered a case in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred when a marriage party returning from a family wedding at Ezham Mile in Adoor stopped in front of a bar hotel and stepped out of the van at the junction around 10.15 pm to drop their relative, Sithara Mol.
