Construction of fencing to protect tourists begins at Chathanpara

IN THE wake of frequent accidents, some of them fatal, authorities have initiated safety measures at the Chathanpara viewpoint near Vagamon, a popular but perilously under-protected tourist spot along the Moolamattom-Kanjar-Pullikkanam-Vagamon road.
The decision follows a string of incidents that have turned the scenic location into a deadly trap for tourists visiting the Vagamon hill station in Idukki in the past few months.
A Rs 17 lakh project to erect a 170-metre-long safety fence along the edge of the cliff by the public works department is now under way.
