IUML-ruled panchayat names Sangh backer as HC counsel, UDF steps in

AS THE MUSLIM League-ruled Vazhikkadavu panchayat's decision to appoint a vociferous Sangh parivar supporter, R Krishnaraj, as its counsel in a High Court case sparked a controversy, the UDF went into overdrive on Tuesday to diffuse the situation.
After the Congress-led front's leaders objected strongly, the panchayat administration has clarified that the decision will be revoked.
The UDF was forced to act based on the assessment that the appointment of a lawyer who professes a radical Hindu stand would affect the front's chances in the by-election in Nilambur, which includes Vazhikkadavu panchayat.
