District issues alert as local resident infected with brain-eating amoeba

Water samples taken from 2 wells in the area confirmed the presence of Naegleria fowleri
THE district is on alert after a case of amoebic meningoencephalitis, a deadly brain infection, was confirmed in Kulathupuzha.
The infection was found in a local resident who had bathed using water drawn from a well. Following this, samples taken from two wells in the area confirmed the presence of the brain-eating amoeba Naegleria fowleri.
Health officials have since restricted the use of water from these wells and initiated immediate preventive measures, including chlorination.
