Infighting costs Cong Ludhiana seat, AAP gains
The New Indian Express Kochi
|June 24, 2025
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) retained the Ludhiana (West) assembly seat on Monday with its candidate Sanjeev Arora defeating Congress' Bharat Bhushan Ashu by 10,637 votes.
It is likely that Rajya Sabha MP Arora will be inducted as a state cabinet minister in the Bhagwant Mann-led council of ministers. This would leave his RS seat vacant, allowing one of the top party leaders to step in.
Sources said that the AAP is now preparing for a cabinet expansion, which is expected soon. During the campaigning for the bypoll, AAP national convenor and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that if elected, Arora would be inducted into the state cabinet.
