Cochin Shipyard Plans Mega Ship-Building Cluster

PUBLIC sector shipbuilder Cochin Shipyard is in talks with global majors to develop Kochi into a major shipbuilding and repair cluster, which is expected to bring huge investment and generate employment for a few thousands.
The shipyard is in talks with Korean and Japanese firms to develop a facility to build large cargo ships, container vessels, tankers, and dry bulk cargo ships. While the talks are in the initial stages, the project, if realised, has the potential to transform Kochi into a global hub of shipbuilding and repair and thus improve India's stake in the sector.
