For the uninitiated, Aravind Ayurveda, based in Angamaly, would come across merely as an Ayurveda hospital with an impressive track record, good enough to draw patients in their droves.

But in reality, this family-run Ayurveda healthcare facility has an incredible history going back eight generations. Originally, the founder fathers and their six generations of successors were traditional Ayurveda practitioners. However, starting with Dr. T.K. Siamalan, who is the Chairman of Aravind Ayurveda, and his son Dr. Shyam Shankar, the Managing Director of the hospital, the baton passed into the hands of BAMS-qualified Ayurveda doctors. The father-son duo also functions as Chief Physicians of the hospital. The hospital also has an in-house facility for producing several Ayurvedic preparations prescribed for patients.
