The investigation continues in the murder case of expatriate businessman Abdul Gafoor Haji, 58, of Poochakkad in Kasaragod; the team has uncovered more evidence. During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused persons had established a beauty parlour in Kannur South Bazaar, investing ₹10 lakh. The probe team believes that the gold taken from Abdul Gafoor Haji was invested for establishing the shop. Apart from the shop, the accused also rented a house in Mela Chovva.
Johnson K J, DYSP, District Crime Records Bureau, Kasaragod, said, "The accused started the shop in Kannur as part of relocation, as there were many people who knew of their fraud activities in Kasaragod. Apart from the beauty parlour, they also run an acupuncture facility. The work of the shop was completed by bringing equipment from Ernakulam. The agreement of the shop was in the name of Ubais T M, the first accused."
The investigation team also found out that after the murder, the accused disposed of the evidence in the Bekal river. The team recovered 8 sovereign gold which was deposited at the branch of Pallikkara Service Cooperative Bank and 7 sovereign gold deposited at Poochakkad Service Cooperative Bank. So far, the team has recovered approximately 117 sovereign gold from the 596 sovereign gold jewellery that went missing from Abdul Gafoor Haji's house following his death. Ubais T M, 32, of Uliyathadukka, is the first accused in the case; his wife, Shameena K H, 34, of Meethal Mangad, also known as Jinnumma, is the second accused; Asneefa P M, 36, of Poochakad, is the third accused; and Ayesha, 43, of Madhur, is the fourth accused.
