THE Ministry of Defence (MoD) inked a deal on Tuesday to buy Bridge Laying Tanks (BLT) to add speed to the movement of armoured elements of the Indian Army.
Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), a unit of Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited (AVNL), has been awarded the contract for 47 Tank-72 Bridge Laying Tanks (BLT) at a cost of ₹1,560.52 crore.
The BLT is critical equipment mechanised forces employ to launch bridges during offensive/defensive operations. The acquisition will enhance mobility, adding to the offensive capability on the battlefield. It provides integral bridging capability to the Tank and Armoured Vehicle fleet enhancing the battlefield mobility and offensive capability, it said.
