Kozhikode has always been a place that welcomes its guests and leaves them with their tummy and hearts filled.
Like its food, Kozhikode is also renowned for its flora, fauna and architectural marvels. The place is well known for its local cuisine as well as the rich cultural diversity. Apart from Kozhikode Halwa and Malabar Biriyani, Kozhikode has many unexplored gems.
There are some places that stand out for their architecture, historical significance and cultural bond. A few of them include the Tali temple, CSI church, Mishkal mosque, Pattala Palli etc, most of which are situated in the heart of the city. All these places have many stories to tell about ancient architecture, culture and tradition, spirituality and history. The architecture of these sacred places is a blend of ancient Malabar style which took a major influence from Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, French and English. The rich tapestry of history these places have is one of the major attractions of the Malabar coast.
One of the significant places that holds history as well as cultural importance is The Parsi Anjuman Baug, the only Parsi place of worship in Kerala. This place gives an insight into Parsi families and their culture and traditions. History lies in the hands of the Mother of God Cathedral and CSI church. Mother of God Cathedral situated near the Beach road in Kozhikode is locally known as Valiya Palli. It is also the headquarters of the Roman Catholic congregation in Malabar.
