Gokulam Group amassed over ₹592 cr from NRIs in breach of RBI norms

THE ongoing investigation into the Gokulam Group has revealed that the company collected over ₹592 crore from non-resident Indians (NRIs) as subscription for its chit funds in violation of central bank regulations, the Enforcement Directorate said on Saturday.
In a press statement, the central agency said that it found that the company had collected an amount of ₹371.80 crore in cash from the persons resident outside India and ₹220.74 crore in cheque from persons resident outside India. "It was also revealed that significant amounts were paid in cash to persons resident outside India in violation of Section 3(b) of FEMA, 1999," the release added.
