Copra price rise: Kerafed plans subsidised coconut oil distribution for BPL cardholders ahead of Onam

WITH the price of copra expected to rise during the Onam season, leading to a potential increase in coconut oil prices, KeraFed is considering distributing coconut oil at subsidised rates to Below Poverty Line (BPL) cardholders.
If approved, the initiative is expected to offer substantial relief to a large section of the population during the festive season.
A formal proposal for the scheme will soon be submitted to the state government for approval. In addition, extra production shifts will be permitted by July 20 in the factories, and necessary measures will be implemented to boost the availability of coconut oil in the market ahead of the Onam season.
