Wildlife Activists: Anti-Poaching Camps, Check-Posts Understaffed

Say deserted camps have increased smuggling & illegal hunting, further endangering wildlife

WILDLIFE conservationists in Belagavi have flagged concerns over lack of personnel at anti-poaching camps (APCs) and check-posts in Khanapur taluk. Noted conservationist Giridhar Kulkarni submitted a memorandum to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, urging immediate action to reinforce these critical wildlife protection facilities.

According to the memorandum, multiple APCs and check-posts were established across the Khanapur, Londa, Kankumbi, and Nagargali ranges in previous years. However, many of these, including the Daroli APC, are now abandoned due to a severe staff crunch, making them ineffective in their core mission of protecting forests and wildlife, they alleged in the memorandum.
