Devotees gathered in large numbers to bid a tearful farewell to the revered seer, Appaji
The mortal remains of Poojya Sharanabasavappa Appa, the 8th Peethadhipati of Shri Sharanabasaveshwara Samsthana, were laid to rest with state honours at the Sharanabasaveshwar Shrine Complex on Friday evening around 5.30 pm.
Family members, devotees and dignitaries gathered in large numbers to bid a tearful farewell to the revered seer, popularly known as Appaji.
Earlier, at 2 pm, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar arrived in Kalaburagi by a special flight to pay homage on behalf of the state government and the Congress party. A police band played and three rounds were fired in the air as a mark of respect in the presence of the Deputy Chief Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Shivakumar recalled that AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge had personally asked him to visit Kalaburagi. "I am here on behalf of the government and the Congress party to pay my last respects to Appaji," he said.
