The Belagavi City Corporation's general meeting held on Monday saw opposition group members raise objections to alleged excessive land rent collected from street vendors.
Heated debates ensued, with the opposition demanding permission to file FIRs against those collecting unfair rent.
During the meeting, when the agenda on land rent and the sanitation workers' package was tabled for approval, opposition members objected, asking for the matter to be discussed in detail in the next session. They accused the ruling party of trying to rush through approvals without transparency.
Opposition leaders Shahid Khan Pathan, Muzammil Doni, and Azeem Patvegar alleged that the administration was hiding facts and pushing hasty decisions. BJP led ruling group leader Hanumant Kongali said they were open to discussions, but ruling group member Ravi Dhotre questioned why opposition members were raising issues in the absence of their leader, Sohail Sangolli, who is currently on leave.
