IF state BJP leaders are concerned about farmers, they should launch a protest against the Union government, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Priyank Kharge, who is also in-charge of Kalaburagi district, said on Monday.

Addressing reporters here, he said Karnataka is facing a severe shortage of fertilizers, including urea, due to poor supply from the Union government. Agriculture Minister Cheluvarayaswamy met the Union agriculture minister a few weeks ago and apprised him of the shortage of fertilizers in the state. He had also requested the Union minister to provide adequate fertilizers to the state.

Priyank alleged that the NDA government led by the BJP has been ignoring the state's demands in terms of development activities. "Last year, our government approached the Supreme Court to get our share of natural calamity compensation. Only after the Supreme Court took up the issue, the Union government released compensation to Karnataka. BJP leaders and MPs from Karnataka should raise their voice against the Union government instead of blaming the state government for everything," he said.
