Kittur farmers warn of protest over unjust land rates

FARMERS from Hirebagewadi and Hulikatti villages have opposed the inadequate compensation being offered for land acquisition related to the Belagavi-Dharwad railway line project via Kittur. They warned to launch a strong agitation if the government fails to compensate in line with prevailing market rates.

In a memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan in Belagavi, the farmers expressed their discontent over the prices being offered, Rs 45 lakh per acre in Hirebagewadi and Rs 35 lakh per acre in Hulikatti. They asserted that these figures are far below the current market value and called for compensation to be calculated
