Dalit forum seeks land rights, economic reforms

THE Bheemavaad Dalita Sangharsha Samiti has submitted a memorandum to the district administration, urging the government to take immediate steps to safeguard Dalit land rights, implement economic reforms and support the development of Buddhist communities, in Belagavi on Monday.
A key demand in the memorandum is the removal of legal obstacles in the PTCL (Prevention of Transfer of Certain Lands) Act to prevent the unlawful alienation of Dalit-owned land. The Samiti also called for stringent action against Deputy Commissioners and Sub-Divisional Officers who misuse court orders to rule in favour of land beneficiaries in violation of Dalit rights.
