Coordinate Better to Prevent Child Marriages, Officials Told

THE Karnataka State Child Protection Commission (KSCPC) Chairman Nagana Gowda K stressed the role of the officials related to children and asked them to work in coordination.

He mentioned that it is the only way to prevent child marriage.

Inaugurating a one-day divisional workshop organised by Karnataka State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights on bringing awareness for the district and taluk level officers of seven districts of Kalyana Karnataka region on the condition of children, Gowda said preventing child marriage is not only the responsibility of the Women and Child Welfare Department and the police. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Directorate of Child Protection, District Legal Services Authority, District Administration, auditorium of Gulbarga University on Friday.

He said that child marriage does not take place in the village without the information of Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, teachers, VAs, and PDOs. Therefore, this can be prevented if the parents are consulted in advance and made aware of the law. Otherwise, it will be a prison marriage for the boy, he said.
