UGC panel to probe KIIT suicide cases

AN 18-year-old girl from Nepal reportedly died by suicide in KIIT University here in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
This is the second such incident at the university in less than three months. On February 16, a 20-year-old Nepalese student, a third-year B.Tech student, had died by suicide after being harassed by a classmate.
According to the police, the victim, a native of Nepal's Birgunj and a first-year B.Tech student, took the extreme step in her hostel room when both her roommates were away. Hostel authorities found her hanging from the fan on Thursday evening, following which she was rushed to a private hospital, where she was declared dead.
Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh, Additional CP Narasingha Bhol and DCP Jagmohan Meena rushed to the university to take stock of the investigation. "Infocity police registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation. Her body has been sent for postmortem. Prime facie it appears the girl took the step possibly over relationship issues," Bhol said.
