Poor demand, low price, farmers skip regulated market

Farmers take tomato and copra to private markets due to erratic functioning of facility

FARMERS from Palacode raised concerns over poor trade in the regulated market set up in Palacode. Farmers said they were struggling because of low pricing and lack of demand for produce.

Farmers buy and sell their produce in regulated markets under the control of the marketing committee. The rules and regulations aim to ensure fair competition, protect consumers, maintain market stability and correct market failures. The regulated market was set up in Palacode nearly eight years ago.
