Labour crunch hits turmeric harvest in Erode; prices drop by ₹900 per quintal in a week

FARMERS from Erode district have expressed concern as labour shortage has caused a delay in harvesting turmeric.
They also said that harvested turmeric in some areas has become wet after the recent downpours, and may lead to potential delays in the turmeric reaching the markets in Erode.
Meanwhile, turmeric procurement prices have fallen by ₹900 per quintal in the Erode market in a week.
In light of this, the farmers have asked the government to introduce new technologies for turmeric cultivation.
Erode is the second largest turmeric market in the country. About 40% of the total turmeric cultivated in Tamil Nadu is from Erode.
