Goondas Act invoked against 2 arrested for smuggling PDS rice

IN a major crackdown on the illegal diversion of ration rice, the Goondas Act has been invoked against two people who were booked last month for allegedly smuggling the subsidised rice meant for distribution during the holy month of Ramzan.
The duo — Feros Khan (35) of Coimbatore and Ayyappakumar (41) of Puducherry — were arrested by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies CID on March 17 and were detained under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act.
They were caught during a vehicle check near the Madukkarai RTO checkpoint on March 17. The CID personnel seized 15,200 kilograms of ration rice from their lorry.
