INDIA will buy 26 Rafale Marine (M) fighters—the marine variant—from France. The Cabinet Committee on Security has cleared the deal worth around ₹63,000 crore. The aircraft will strengthen the country's maritime air combat capability.
The procurement deal is for 26 Rafale M aircraft, including 22 single-seater and four double-seater trainer versions. Delivery is expected in five years. This is the costliest contract in recent times. The recent deal for 156 Light Combat Helicopters, Prachand, signed between the Ministry of Defence and the HAL, was estimated to be about ₹62,700 crore.
The final documentary formalities are expected to be officially announced later when the French Defence Ministry officials visit India.
