Action sought against STR ranger over assault on farmer

A forest ranger is under the scanner over an alleged attack on a 45-year-old farmer by the forest department staff at a checkpost in Bhavanisagar, Erode district, last week.
While the forest department initiated an investigation into the incident on Sunday, the police have already started a probe against the forest ranger.
Sources say Manickam of Vellalapalayam in Bhavanisagar is currently receiving treatment at the Sathyamangalam government hospital following the alleged attack after an argument broke out between him and forest personnel on May 13 over permission to enter the forest limits.
