WEST Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said the Election Commission may announce assembly poll dates for the state soon after the publication of the final voters’ list in February under the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise to prevent any legal challenge to the fresh electoral rolls.

Addressing a public rally in Cooch Behar district, Banerjee alleged that names of many genuine voters are being deleted during the rolls revision. The CM alleged that the Election Commission’s November 4 rollout of the SIR had created “widespread fear” among people, particularly among minorities, migrant workers and married women.
