Despite Kerala opposition, Raja re-elected gen secy of CPI for third straight term

|September 26, 2025
THE Left party veteran D Raja has been reelected as the general secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) for a third straight term, as he gets an exemption from the age limit rule for all members of the party secretariat.

The Kerala unit, however, opposed extending the age relaxation to him.
Raja became the first Dalit leader to head a communist party in the country when he was given the responsibility in 2019 after the retirement of Sudhakar Reddy. He was reelected at the Party Congress in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, in 2022.
According to the sources, though there were heated exchanges over the age limit, consensus emerged to relax the age limit of 75 years for Raja.
