Citing Pahalgam, Jaishankar Says Bloc Created to Fight Terrorism, Separatism and Extremism
CITING the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Tuesday urged the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) countries to adopt an uncompromising position against terrorism.
Speaking at the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Tianjin, China, Jaishankar termed terrorism, separatism, and extremism the core threats the bloc was created to fight and warned against any complacency.
"We in India witnessed a graphic example in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025," he said. "It was designed to sabotage Jammu and Kashmir's tourism economy and inflame religious tensions," Jaishankar told fellow ministers of the grouping that included his Pakistan counterpart Muhammad Ishaq Dar.
